Careers
Careers Leader: Mrs S. Macpherson (staffsmacpherson@kggs.org)All students are given access to a Careers Education and Guidance programme and have the opportunity to discuss their experiences and learning outcomes. The programme is evaluated through our annual year group review programme through which questionnaires are completed by both parents and students and the feedback is used in our programme reviews.
All students will have access to the following:
- One lesson of PSHE guidance every two weeks
- Year 9 and Year 11 Options Evenings
- Appropriate careers advice within subject areas and highlighting of both employability skills and vocational subject significance
- Opportunity to discuss future plans with tutors, and an independent CEG advisor
- Preparation for their day placement on Take your Daughter to Work Day in Year 8 and review
- Year 9 visit to the South Kesteven Careers Fair
- Year 11 attendance at a talk where they gain information on apprenticeships
- Years 10, 11 and Year 12 and 13 are offered an interview with an independent CEG advisor
- Year 12 and 13 students receive both whole year group and individual 1:1 advice and guidance on the university application process
- Year 13 students selecting post 18 progression outside Higher Education receive individual guidance to support their applications and advice on the recruitment and selection process
- An opportunity to attend mock interviews
- The chance to participate in Young Enterprise in Year 12
- Careers week (June/July), where all curriculum subjects highlight career opportunities and employability skills linked to their subject areas across all year groups
Students will be able to:
- Record their achievements and set individual targets
- Access the Careers Library and School Library 8.00 am to 4:15 pm
Students can identify their Key Skills through the Personal Development & Guidance programme.
Provider Access Policy
Introduction
This policy statement sets out the school's arrangements for managing the access of providers to pupils at the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider's education or training offer. This complies with the school's legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.Pupil Entitlement
All pupils in years 8-13 are entitled:- To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
- To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including
- technical education and apprenticeships - through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
- To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
In line with the updated Provider Access Policy this provision will include from January 2023:
- Two mandatory encounters with a provider of technical education or apprenticeships within Years 8 & 9, between 1 September in Year 8 and 28 February in Year 9
- Two mandatory encounters with a provider of technical education or apprenticeships within Years 10 & 11, between 1 September in Year 10 and 28 February in Year 11
- Two encounters with a provider of technical education or apprenticeships within Years 12 & 13, between 1 September in Year 12 and 28 February in Year 13. These will be optional for students to attend.

| In Y12 & Y13 we try to arrange ongoing optional small group talks about different careers according to student requests and interests e.g. law, midwifery, routes into teaching, armed forces, psychology etc. Many of these are provided by the school's alumni. All events are evaluated. |

For safeguarding purposes, providers should bring photo identification with them when visiting the school.
Premises and Facilities
The school will make the main hall, classrooms or private meeting rooms available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. The school will also make available AV and other specialist equipment to support the provider presentations. This will be discussed and agreed in advance of the visit with the Careers Administrator or the Careers Leader.
Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course or employment literature at the Careers Resource Centre. The Careers Resource Centre is available to all students at lunch and break times.
